Abstract: Recently, it is discussed that destruction of landscape is becoming serious in Japan. In the previous study, focusing on the concept of the “masses” by Spanish Philosopher Ortega, we hypothesized that “if people became vulgar, they would disregard and moreover damage beautiful landscape”, and tested this hypothesis using data from university students. In the present study, we tested again the hypothesis using a more general sample of the Japanese adult population. For this purpose, we implemented a Web survey targeting Japanese adult population (n =1000). The obtain data statistically supported the hypothesis, and it was further indicated that the masses might have a negative influence on the landscape.
