Abstract: IMAGINE A NEUROLOGICALLY SOUND, healthy newborn.If you could do just one thing to influence the future life course of that infant, what would that one thing be?Of course, many things are important.Familiar responses to the question include providing adequate medical care, nutrition and shelter, nurturance, affection, touching and holding, verbal stimulation, love, attachment, basic trust and friends for the child.Although all of these things are certainly important, they are not the most important thing one could do.
