High Dose Chemotherapy Followed by Autologous Stem Cell Rescue for High Risk Soft Tissue Sarcoma: Retrospective Review
Year: 2018
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Background: The role of high dose chemotherapy (HDC) and autologous stem cell transplantation in patients with high risk (advanced metastatic or relapsed) soft tissue sarcomas is controversial. Despite current advances in multimodal chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and local control measures, the prognosis of patients with advanced metastatic or unresectable and relapsed sarcomas remain poor with less than 10% 5 years disease free survival. Consolidation with HDC and autologous stem cell rescue (ASCR) may provide a benefit to a subgroup of high risk patients.
