HLA-Class I and II Antigens are Expressed in CD34+ Cells: Implications for HLA Mismatched Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT)
Year: 2018
Type: article
Abstract: Recipient's preformed donor specific antibodies (DSA) directed at mismatched HLA antigens are associated with impaired engraftment of allogeneic BMT. The mechanism of DSA-mediated primary graft failure (PGF) likely involves both complement-mediated and antibody-dependent-cell-mediated lysis of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and other cell populations needed for engraftment. The strength of these responses is in part determined by the level of circulating DSA at the time of infusion and by the density of HLA antigens expressed on the cell surface.
