Abstract: This paper discusses thecurrent aspects of the surveillance and management of the electromagneticspectrum under various topics that are vital to wireless communications. On thebasis of the recent technological advancements in conjunction with thediscussions on the global approaches toward electromagnetic spectrummonitoring, the paper addresses short-, medium-, and long-term strategies inwireless communications for monitoring, governing, and managing theelectromagnetic spectrum of leading countries and multinational organizations.Furthermore, it proposes a novel spectrum monitoring strategy fornext-generation wireless systems and outlines the implications of the proposedstrategy.
