Abstract: UROLOGY® METHODS: II male patients with a mean age of 62.5 (42-69) years presenting with recurrent strictures of the vesicourethral anastomosis were treated by bladder neck closure and continent stoma by using either the appendix (n = 3) or a small ileal segment (n = 8).Radical prostatectomy had been performed 1.5 to 5 years (mean: 3.1) before, all patients had undergone multiple transurethral procedures such as incision of the bladder, resection of the scar tissue at the anastomotic site with or without placement of a urethral stent.4 patients had undergone reconstrutive procedures using vascularized bladder flaps.RESULTS : After a mean follow-up of 12 (15 to 2) months all patients are continent with a catheterisable nd uncomplicated stoma.Mean bladder capacity is 368 (300 to 480) ml; catheterization intervalls are 4 to 6 times during the day and 1-2 times during night.None of the patients had to undergone revision surgery.CONCLUSIONS: Bladder neck closure with continent vesicostomy represents a valuable surgical alternative in patients with severe and recurrent strictures of the vesicourethral anastomosis following radical prostatectomy.
