A Retrospective Review of Fluconazole as Antifungal Prophylaxis in the Adult and Pediatric Haploidentical Stem Cell Transplant Population
Year: 2018
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Background: Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients, affecting 3-10% in the first year, with a mortality rate of 30-50%. Haploidentical (Haplo) transplant is an independent risk factor for development of IFI, likely due to delayed immune reconstitution from T cell depletion techniques (such as post-transplant cyclophosphamide). Antifungal prophylaxis in this population remains poorly defined and variable.
