Abstract: This cost data suggest that we avoided >$400,000 in variable expense by performing these procedures in the clinic.CONCLUSIONS: Promoting minor surgical procedures in the clinic under LA has many advantages.First, it obviates the need for GA in the vast majority of patients.Second, it can be performed the same day as patient presentation in clinic, maximizing family convenience.Third, in this era of cost shifting to insurance policy holders, charges are lower, thus reducing the financial burden placed on families.Lastly, office based procedures reduce the cost of offering care, which is of great importance in hospitals with capitated care models.
