Abstract: espanolLa presente investigacion tiene por finalidad analizar, aunque sea someramente, algunos aspectos relevantes que tipifican desde su nacimiento al pueblo araucano, y que sirvieron para forjar el caracter del pueblo chileno. Dicha mirada se analiza principalmente desde el punto de vista de los que fueron, por casi trescientos anos, sus enemigos. Aunque los mapuches constituyen un importante elemento etnico y cultural, que se amalgama, con elementos foraneos, en el crisol de la Republica de Chile, a lo largo de la historia su relevancia ha sido subestimada por textos juridicos, gobiernos, prensa, etc. Quizas, los que mas los han realzado, han sido sus antiguos contrincantes: los naturales del Reino de Espana italianoThis research aims to examine, albeit briefly, some important aspects that typify from birth to Araucanian people, which have helped to shape the character of the Chilean people.
