Abstract: [Place struggle: introductory reflections] This special feature issue deals with the struggle over the urban periphery ( förorten ) in Swedish cities today. By paying attention to the urban periphery as a political phenomenon, created in the tension between reproduction and resistance, the authors try to capture the complex dynamics between different interests that pervade the urban periphery. With contributions by Magnus Dahlstedt, Christophe Foultier, James Frempong, Lisa Kings, René León Rosales, Vanja Lozic, Nazem Tahvilzadeh and Aleksandra Ålund. The different perspectives in the selection of articles on the urban periphery as a place for political struggle and the “struggles over place” there opens up for exciting conversations about this constantly recurring theme: the urban periphery, both lived and imagined.
