Cytomegalovirus Infection Among Cord Blood Allogeneic Transplantation Recipients: Low Incidence of Cytomegalovirus Events without High-Dose Valacyclovir Prophylaxis
Year: 2018
Type: letter
Abstract: We read with great interest the report by Dr. Hill and colleagues entitled “A Modified Intensive Strategy to Prevent Cytomegalovirus Disease in Seropositive Umbilical Cord Blood Transplant Recipients” [1]. High-dose (6 g/day) valacyclovir prophylaxis has not been part of the umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) protocol at our institution, yet we have not observed the rates of cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation and disease in our population that prompted the author's “intense” approach to CMV prophylaxis described [1,2].
