Abstract: OBJECTIVES: To determine if early menarche is risk factor of type 2 \ndiabetes mellitus in women between 21 and 50 years old. \nMATERIAL and methods: Through an analytical, observational study, cases \nand controls at the Albrecht of Trujillo studied 600 women ,300 with diabetes \n(cases) and 300 without diabetes (controls) for to measure risk of type 2 diabetes \nmellitus because early menarche \nRESULTS: 85% of people with early menarche compared to 37% who did not \nhave early menarche had type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult life; the effect size \n48%. In the bivariate analysis, the history of early menarche is risk factor for \ndiabetes mellitus type 2 in adulthood, OR = 9, 79 (6, 09-15, 75) P = 0.000. \nCONCLUSIONS: Early menarche was risk factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus \nin women .
