Abstract: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is a revolutionary addition to diabetic management for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). CGM, when used properly, improves overall glycemic control. In the short term, CGM decreases incidences of hypoglycemic events and improves day to day blood glucose control. In the long term, CGM decreases hemoglobin A1c levels and decreases incidences and severity of long term complications of diabetes. When patients are educated and supported by providers on the use of CGM, patients with T1DM can achieve optimal glycemic control.
