Algunos nahuatlismos en el castellano de Filipinas

Year: 1960
Type: article
Abstract: The document presents a study on the influence of Nahuatl-origin words (nahuatlisms) in the Spanish spoken in the Philippines during the colonial era. Drawing on sources such as W. E. Retana’s Dictionary of Filipinisms and testimonies from Filipino researchers, it explains how Nahuatl words were incorporated into everyday language due to commercial and cultural interactions between New Spain and the Philippine Islands. The text provides multiple concrete examples of Nahuatl vocabulary used in the Philippines, with their meanings and comparisons to usage in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking regions. This analysis offers valuable insights into the transpacific linguistic and cultural connections between Mexico and the Philippines
