Rocky Relations: Epistemological History and Psychology Teaching and Education Studies in Argentina

Year: 2019
Type: article
Abstract: This paper offers a description of the recent past and current state of the field of psy-chology teaching and education studies in Argentina. We describe the theoretical and em-pirical problems addressed by specific researches on the subject, emphasizing two com-plementary set of studies: nationwide studies during the 1990s and more specific, nar-rower studies carried out during the last decade. Our analysis concludes that despite the intrinsic richness of the empirical data those studies offer, they do not integrate a histor-ical and philosophical perspective in a systematic and anchored fashion in order to ana-lyze curricular, academic and professional problems. The integration of such perspectives is considered crucial for a coherent understanding of both the current state of university education in psychology in Argentina, and of the processes that have led to it. Such pro-jected integration is the starting point of a second paper, of future appearance.
