Overview of the Research Progress in Automated Map Generalization

Abstract: Spatial information generalization is a major issue in spatial information processing. This paper reviews the research development of cartographic generalization in generalization knowledge category and acquiring, operator and algorithm, quality evaluation and process modeling and controlling. The paper analyzes cartographic generalization in the background of big data, and puts forward that the cartographic generalization should revise the research object, the concept and the method.
