Editorial for CC360

Year: 2019
Type: editorial
Abstract: We are proud to serve as the Editors for Crohn’s & Colitis 360. Along with our associate editors, we are embarking on a new digital journal for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) in conjunction with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. Crohn’s & Colitis 360 will promote a patient-centered approach and provide work that is meaningful for those caring for and living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. For authors submitting articles, the journal will provide expedited peer review and digital publication of accepted manuscripts and also open access to anyone in the world. Crohn’s & Colitis 360 brings together leading experts from around the world from a multitude of research areas and across disciplines. By covering all key disciplines involved in caring for IBD patients, the online journal will promote a cross-disciplinary and collaborative approach to addressing vital clinical care and patient quality-of-life issues. Its broad dissemination of ideas among all scientific disciplines will increase the understanding of IBD and accelerate progress toward treatments that improve patient lives, and cures. As an open access publication, Crohn’s & Colitis 360 allows unrestricted online access to research publications with no access fees. As a digital journal, the submission of video clips, three-dimensional graphics, and other such visual supplements will enhance the written word and “show” the reader the research. There are several advantages for authors submitting to Crohn’s & Colitis 360. All authors will benefit from rapid turnaround times for editorial decision, double-blinded review during the peer-review process, and publication of reviewer comments in the journal once accepted. Over time we plan to also publish the reviewer name in association with their reviewer comments. Additionally, the journal also strongly encourages authors to make their data sets openly available to encourage further review and replication. Not only will this distinguish our journal and provide a fair and unbiased review process for authors, balance, but it will also allow our readership to access the reviews for additional insight and information on the published work. We anticipate that the global readership will welcome the fresh look of the journal and readership will grow precipitously. Articles published in Crohn’s & Colitis 360 will reflect the diversity of the IBD field and include original research, reviews, best practice summaries, care pathways and practice guidelines, care tools, case reports, and multimedia. The journal’s comprehensive approach will also cover related areas, such as mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, qualitative research, models of care delivery, health economics and policy, and education in IBD. Critically, accepted manuscripts will be required to highlight key findings impacting patients and the broader IBD community. As part of the editorial board, Crohn’s & Colitis 360 will include patient stakeholders to ensure that the “voice” of the patient is heard. Accepted manuscripts will be required to have a patient/community facing abstract that highlights key findings. The journal will strive to apply findings to clinical practice for the healthcare provider, but also how the articles impact patient care and potentially change management strategies. Although only in the first volume, we are already looking to the future. As healthcare rapidly changes, Crohn’s & Colitis 360 will keep pace with the times and publish cutting-edge research in an evolving care management landscape. The future will require integration of research to practice, evaluate new models of care and the economics of IBD, and explore innovations as applied to IBD. We welcome your submissions to the journal, as well as your feedback as we embark on this exciting new project.
