Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Aim: It is intended to test whether a difference exist in the level of stress experienced by mothers\nof children at biological risk compared to mothers of children from normal population, when the\ninfants reach the six months of age, and whether the physiotherapy treatment Vojta that infants at\nbiological risk had received rises their mothers’ stress.\nMethod: 80 infants and their mothers took part, from which 51 belonged to the general population,\nand 29 were at biological risk (15 receiving Vojta’s physiotherapy treatment, and 14 receiving\nother treatments). After signing the informed consent, the mothers fulfilled the Abidin questionnaire\nof parental stress (PSI, short form), when their infant reached the six months of chronological age\nor corrected age.\nResults: When comparing the biological risk group with the general population group in the\nthree dimensions of stress, it was only found a significant difference in the dimension: difficult child.\nAs for the type of treatment received by children the differences do not reach statistical significance\non scales of maternal stress.\nConclusions: Results indicate that, despite the differences in levels of maternal stress, Vojta\ntherapy seems not to be a relevant factor to explain such differences.
