Sat-107 Bone Marrow Stromal Cell Antigen-1 Mediates Acute Kidney Injury and Kidney Fibrosis
Year: 2019
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: Interstitial fibrosis is a final common pathway following organ injury and therapies that focus on fibrosis that delay or reverse progressive renal failure are limited. Previously we showed that sphingosine kinase 2-deficient mice (SphK2KO) develop less fibrosis after unilateral kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P), which is produced by two sphingosine kinase isoforms (SphK1 and SphK2), is involved in diverse functions. SphK2 is primarily located in the nucleus and S1P produced by SphK2 inhibits histone deacetylase (HDAC) and changes histone acetylation status, which can lead to altered target gene expression. The aim of this study is to elucidate new mechanisms of kidney fibrosis through epigenetic changes.
