Abstract: Metal-free carbon dots can be used as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents using chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST), as presented by G. Liu and co-workers in their Communication on page 9871 ff. Carbon dots were loaded into cells using liposome-mediated endocytosis, and MRI of these labeled cells was demonstrated in mice brains.
