Abstract: Autism Spectrum Disorder is heterogeneous with a wide range of characteristic disorders, \nand these relationships are still under discussion. This is because there are many areas involved \nwhich are affected. Nonetheless, the actual literature is awarding more importance to the \ndevelopment of the executive functions in conceptualizing the disorder. Among the different \ncharacteristics which contextualize this disorder, there is also a need to emphasise the alterations \nin communication and language areas. Throughout this study we examined about the conception of \nthis disorder by studying the association established between language understanding and \nexecutive functions. To achieve this, we investigated the relationship between language \nunderstanding and the executive functions between a group of 15 children who are diagnosed on \nthe Autism Spectrum Disorder and a group of 15 children with a neurotypical development. We \nthen compared the obtained scores to analyse the correlation between language understanding \nwith the belief that these results will aid us to establish an intervention programme design. The U \nMann-Whitney non-parametric statistical test was used in the statistical analysis and the \nSpearman Rho was used for the correlations. The results showed better scores are achieved in \nlanguage understanding in the monotypic children group. A significant difference in level that has \nbeen found with the comparison between both groups regarding language understanding and some \nexecutive functions such as flexibility and emotional regulation. Besides this, an inverse relation \nwith a strong significant level has been shown between language and executive functions has been \nobserve too. We concluded in this study that children diagnosed in Autism Spectrum Disorder \nshow more difficulties in the language understanding and executive functions development, \nespecially in the flexibility, emotional regulation and self-supervision, appreciating also a \nmoderate-strong correlation between language understanding and executive functions.
