Abstract: Trends in Pediatric Thyroid CancerMidorikawa et al and Takano expressed concerns about our interpretation and the broader implications of our study, which described trends in pediatric differentiated thyroid cancer incidence rates in the United States between 1998 and 2013. 1 We found that the incidence of differentiated thyroid cancer increased rapidly over the study period for all tumor stages and sizes at the time of diagnosis. The majority of cases were found to be localized to the thyroid gland at the time of diagnosis, and these accounted for the largest absolute increase in incidence over time.Overdiagnosis, or the diagnosis of cancers that never would have become symptomatic or caused health problems over a lifetime, has likely had the greatest influence on trends in localized tumors.More intensive and health behaviors among survivors of childhood cancer: current state of the literature.
