Abstract: Researchers in the nutrition field have devoted the last 40 years to determine the way in which diet is related to obesity and chronic noncommunicable diseases that emerged during the twentieth century, when life expectancy was from 35 to 77 years. Thanks to this effort, today we have the best scientificevidence to develop guidelines and recommendations for a healthy and sustainable diet. The great challenge of today is to identify efficient strategies to inculcate good eating habits for the population. In this congress, two main themes were developed. The first one presented the scientific evidence thatdocuments the role of diet in chronic diseases. The second, described different scenarios to address the issue of transfer of scientific evidence to the population. The congress concluded with a presentation by Dr. Walter C. Willett indicating the priorities and challenges in the field of nutrition.
