Abstract: The policy of food supply and food security is one of the most important roles of the agricultural policy.The agricultural sector is considered one of the main pillars in building the economic entity in Iraq, because of the existence of large areas of agricultural land and the availability of water resources and human resources.The study aims to determine the current food security situation by investigating the impacts of production and consumption policies of the most important grain crops (wheat and rice) for the period (1990 -2016) on reducing the chronic food deficit in Iraq.Consequently, suggestions of some future guidelines for food security can be drawn.
