Patient Engagement and Patient‐Reported Outcomes
Year: 2019
Type: other
Abstract: Incorporation of the patient voice into clinical research via the use of patient-reported outcome measures (PROs) can serve to identify unmet needs of patients and help identify gaps in healthcare. Use of PROs is a valuable support to patient engagement and co-production of healthcare to improve health outcomes and quality of care. Implementation of PROs into routine practice, interpretation of data, use of PROs to guide interventions, and evaluation of impact of using PROs pose practical and methodological challenges. This chapter will explore these challenges in the context of integration of PROs into clinical care, clinical trials, and the horizon for comparative effectiveness research.
