Facilitating uptake of research in policy and practice: integrated knowledge translation in CEBHA+
Year: 2019
Type: other
Abstract: Integrated knowledge translation (IKT) aims to establish mutually beneficial relationships between researchers and decision-makers to increase the relevance and use of research for decision-making. The Collaboration for Evidence-Based Healthcare and Public Health in Africa , an African-German research consortium, embraced IKT as an approach to enhancing use of research on diabetes, hypertension and traffic injuries. Each African partner identified and approached policy and practice stakeholders leading to five country-specific IKT strategies which are currently being implemented. Strategies entail the purpose, means (e.g. issue briefs, workshops) and frequency of continuous stakeholder engagement. IKT processes and outcomes will be evaluated using a comparative case study design. This will result in a refined programme theory of IKT which can lead to more effective, context-aware and sustainable research partnerships facilitating translation of relevant and useful research in Sub-Saharan Africa.
