Influence of Radial Stratification on Eigenfrequency Computations in Rocket Combustion Chambers
Year: 2019
Type: article
Abstract: The impact of a radially stratified mean flow on the flow field fluctuations in a rocket combustion chamber is studied using the Linearized Euler Equations. With the Finite Element Method eigenmodes are calculated for different degrees of stratification. Thereto a simplified diffusion flame structure is imposed via an analytic ansatz function. The complex eigenfrequencies are evaluated and the mode shapes are analyzed. Both eigenfrequencies and damping rates are found to decrease with increasing stratification. The mode shapes show a significant dependence on the stratification regarding vorticity and entropy fluctuations, whereas the pressure amplitudes are not influenced.
