Adhésion thérapeutique : le maillon manquant du contrôle tensionnel
Year: 2019
Type: article
Abstract: After numerous years of research and development of effective anti-hypertensive drugs, it is regrettable to note that less than half of hypertensive patients reach the blood pressure targets that are known to reduce their cardiovascular risks and mortality. Poor adherence to treatment is one of the main causes of insufficient blood pressure control. Furthermore, non-adherence to anti-hypertensive therapy correlates with higher risks of cardiovascular events. The objective of health professionals is to identify non adherent patients and to offer them appropriate solutions to support their treatment self-management. Innovative approaches like using electronic pillboxes combined with an interprofessional medication adherence support program should allow a more appropriate and effective care.
