Abstract: KOOHFAR, SANAZ.Characterization of Structural and Magnetic Ground State in Manganitebased Perovskite Metal Oxides.(Under the direction of Dr. Divine Kumah).Metal oxides with perovskite structure have unique properties such as colossal magnetoresistivity, superconductivity, and multiferroicity that have attracted a huge amount of interest for both academic and industrial purposes.Due to increasing demand for smaller and faster devices, metal oxides with their unique physical properties are good candidates for a wide range of devices such as piezoelectric resonators, magneto-optical storage, and multiferroic devices.Electronelectron interactions in transition metal oxides lead to new properties compared to conventional.Additionally, the interface of metal oxides is even more interesting to investigate because the interface could be the birthplace of novel phenomena such as quantum hall effect and two dimensional electron gases. There are many factors that can contribute to emergent properties at interfaces including ionic displacement, oxygen deficiency, applied strain, symmetry breaking and doping at the interface. An electric dipole formed at the interface of a polar non-polar material can
