Abstract: Pig industry is an important part of animal husbandry and a pillar element of agricultural modernization in China. The healthy growth of pigs depends on amino acid nutrition. Dietary amino acids can not only serve as the substrates for protein synthesis, but also participate in many physiological metabolic processes. This article mainly reviews the history of pig amino acid nutrition in China since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, especially after the reform and opening-up. Meanwhile, we review the research progress of amino acid nutrition in pigs. Finally, we predict future research directions in this field through analysis of the pig and feed industry in China.
