Development and Characterization of an Anisotropic Biomimetic Polymeric Patch to Improve the Durability of Surgical Heart Valve Repair
Year: 2020
Type: article
Abstract: Objective: Patches currently used for valve repair have suboptimal mechanical and biocompatibility performance. We hypothesize that a biostable “biomimetic” patch that replicates the three-layer architecture and the anisotropic mechanical properties of a native leaflet will display better durability. Our objective is to fabricate this biomimetic patch, test it mechanically and biologically and compare it to commercial patches and native leaflets.
