Abstract: The utility of capture-recapture methods is offset by strong underlying assumptions. In this paper we discuss a failure in the perfect linkage assumption in a special case of capture-recapture known as the dual system estimation. We propose a naive linkage error corrected dual system estimator. The advantage of the proposed approach compared with the existing linkage error corrected methods is that it permits an easy way to obtain the corresponding variance estimator.
