Abstract: This CAS talk describes the role of beam instrumentation and diagnostics in particle therapy accelerators. It presents an extended view on instrumentation, feedbacks, detector technology, quality assurance (QA) and their interdependencies. Furthermore, some basics, examples and challenges in near future concerning diagnostics and instrumentation techniques used in particle therapy are reported.
