Cuando la libertad importa: inmigrantes y movilidad libre
Year: 2020
Type: article
Abstract: Assuming the value of individual freedom as a starting point, the article advocates for free mobility. According to the central argument, the exclusionary power of the State towards potential immigrants would be a form of unjustified coercion, and accordingly, there should be a presumption in favor of free mobility. The article critically examines three arguments, articulated by reference to liberal values in order to justify this power (the right to property, freedom of association, and social justice) and argues that none of them are plausible. Upholding the value of individual freedom should lead to the defense of a world of open borders for immigrants, a realistic utopia that those who advocate for the value of freedom should advance forward.
