Health Benefits of Probiotic Fermented Foods
Year: 2020
Type: article
Abstract: Fermentation has a range of health benefits to it. Fermented foods are often much more nutritious
than their unfermented version. The probiotics developed during fermentation may help to restore the gut's balance
of friendly bacteria and may relieve some digestive problems. There is a wide variety of probiotic foods available,
and according to their preferences, people may add as little or as many as they want into their diet. The history of
human consumption of fermented foods could be traced back to centuries. Both the therapeutic and taste enhancing
properties of fermented products are due mainly to the presence of bacteria known as probiotics. Probiotics help
with digestion and nutrient assimilation. Such bacteria are also regarded for their beneficial immune system and
effects on health. Some of them generate bioactive antimicrobial molecules that make them successful biopreservatives, and generate nutraceuticals to build functional foods with improved nutrient bioavailability.
Therefore, these lactic acid bacteria have undeniably beneficial effects. This study summarizes the health benefits
of products fermented with probiotics.
