Optimal drug therapies for HIV in pregnant women and in children: Considering pharmacogenetics, drug-drug interactions and formulations
Year: 2018
Type: article
Abstract: Optimal ART in children and pregnant women lags behind that of nonpregnant adults. While establishing safety and efficacy in these subpopulations is important, the efficient implementation of pharmacokinetic studies confirming appropriate dosing is key. Pharmacogenetic variants, drug-drug interactions and formulation are sources of pharmacokinetic variability for which a priori adjustment of doses would be optimal. Suitable age-appropriate formulations are essential at an early stage.
