Abstract: A tribute to H. George Frederickson -One of public administration's modern-day founding fathersOn Friday, July 24, 2020, public administration lost one of its giants, H. George Frederickson, after a long and distinguished career. Many of the readers of this piece are, no doubt, familiar with George and his scholarship, especially his work on social equity (work that seems especially timely and relevant today). In fact, many of those who never met George or read any of his work have still likely benefited from his passion and devotion to the study and practice of public administration and public policy. In fact, readers of the Journal of Public Affairs Education (JPAE) owe George a measure of thanks as he founded and subsequently served as the editor of JPAE for a number of years.Readers of the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory (JPART) and Perspectives on Public Management and Governance (PPMG) as well as members of the Public Management Research Association (PMRA) are similarly indebted. That George played such a pronounced role in founding and, in several cases, running several of our leading journals, says much about his impact on the field and about his enduring belief that good government, good governance, and good scholarship could bring about a more just and equitable society. Many of us have profited directly and indirectly from George's passion and intellect. And so, upon the occasion of his passing, it seems right and proper to take a few moments to celebrate George. In that spirit, we offer a brief reflection on George, his contributions to our field, and his relevance to us, the authors of this tribute. In doing so, we hope in some small way to celebrate his life and accomplishments and, more personally, to convey our thanks to a friend and mentor who gave so much to us and so many others.
