Increased nasal Streptococcus pneumoniae presence in Western environment associated with atopic eczema in Chinese immigrants
Year: 2020
Type: article
Abstract: Chinese immigrants living in Australia experience a gradual increase in allergic conditions such as asthma, eczema and hayfever. Recently we found that long-term Chinese immigrants had diminished innate cytokine responses, which may increase their pathogenic bacterial and viral carriage. We hypothesize that a Western environment changes nasal microbiome profile in relation to allergic development in immigrants living in Australia.
