Abstract: Skin cancer has become one of the most common forms of cancer in recent years. Two major categories of skin cancer have been identified: malignant melanoma (MM) and non-malignant skin cancer (NMSC). Among non-melanoma skin cancer lesions, basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common, with a frequent localization in the face. Aim: The current study aims to demonstrate and confirm the frequency of BCC on the face. The increased frequency of these lesions on certain aesthetic units more exposed to the sun proves once again that ultraviolet radiation is the most important risk factor for the appearance of this skin lesion type. Material and methods: The study was performed on a group of 95 patients diagnosed with various histological forms of BCC, located in the face. The data has been collected from the observation files, the hospital's reports and eventually processed with the help of the statistical programs MS Excel 2010 and SPSS ver. 18.0. Results: The results of the study showed the most frequent affectation of females (86.3%). The elderly are most often affected (average age 71 years old). The anatomical region that BCC develops most often was the nasal pyramid (32.6%). The nodular form of BCC was the most common. Conclusions: The increased frequency of BCC on the more preeminent anatomical areas of the face, so more exposed to solar radiation shows once again the importance of avoiding exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Our study confirms the importance of epidemiological studies in detecting risk factors for various pathologies.
