Abstract: This paper develops a mean-field theory for neuronal networks in a critical regime. In this regime, a small number of constituent neurons can evoke non-vanishing, synchronous fluctuations over the whole network. Collective rhythms with different degrees of coherence emerge from this strong micro-macro coupling.
