Abstract: This article was adapted from the address Dr. Snoek delivered as the recipient of the American Diabetes Association's Richard R. Rubin Award for 2019. This award recognizes a behavioral researcher who has made outstanding, innovative contributions to the study and understanding of the behavioral aspects of diabetes in diverse populations. Dr. Snoek delivered the address in June 2019 at the Association's 79th Scientific Sessions in San Francisco, CA.
