Abstract: The use of artificial reproductive technology (ART) has increased exponentially since the birth of Louise Brown in 1978. As a striking example, in the first four years after Brown's birth, only four children were born using ART. In 2016, 2% to 4% of children born in the western world were conceived by the technology (1). Given that ART is increasingly utilized by individuals not affected by infertility (2), it can be easily envisioned that the current percentage of ART-conceived children will increase in the future.
