Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Area Tour Guide Training Programs conducted by two Provincial Councils in Sri Lanka. The aim was achieved through a review of extant literature and empirical investigation based on data provided by 81 novice tour guides who completed the training programs conducted by particular organizations. A quantitative approach was applied in the study by administering a questionnaire survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical procedures and paired sample t-test. The result shows that content of the selected training program is par with the six dimension model which is widely accepted in the designing tour guide training. Moreover, it was found that the program had been successful in terms of knowledge, skill and attitudes imparted in the trainees. Nevertheless, the study identified some contents in the training curricular require reconsideration to make them more relevant and inclusive.
