Suicide and Family Survival

Year: 1997
Type: article
Abstract: Early one beautiful summer morning, a twenty-two-year-old young man, who was loved by his family and liked by many friends, went to his place of employment in the town where he was attending college, and for reasons known, or perhaps not known, only to him, chose to kill himself by means of hanging. His decision not only ended his life; it impacted the lives of others in a way that will have an effect on them, and those with whom they associate, for a long time, if not forever. His family was left not only with the task of dealing with his death, but needing to come to terms with how he died. The "worst" had happened, and they were not sure they would be able to handle it, let alone know how. They had many questions and very few answers, especially in regard to why the seemingly rare and unthinkable had happened to their youngest son and brother and what could have been done to have prevented it. Their outlook on the world had changed, and the days were no longer quite as beautiful.
