“We Live in a State of Terror”: Transcending Territorial Violence in Romesh Gunesekera’s Heaven’s Edge
Year: 2016
Type: article
Abstract: In Heaven’s Edge (2002), British writer Romesh Gunesekera, who was born in Sri Lanka, accounts for the sharp contrast between the images that the island conjures up of a par-adise destination for tourists and the extremely violent past of its people. Terror and beauty collide to portray a dystopian reality. This paper will examine how Gunesekera voices conflicts and how reverie serves as a coping mechanism to come to terms with inevitable violence.
