Abstract: VOLUME 296 (2021) ARTICLE NUMBER 100574 In Fig. 5, the transcription initiation site (+1) was mislabeled as an “A.” It is properly labeled as a “T.” Additionally, in Page 5 of the Results and discussion section it states “A complementary DNA product was detected in a total RNA sample isolated from 33277 wild-type strain (Fig. 5A, lane 2), indicating that a porT transcription was initiated from the adenosine located in the 44-nt upstream of the open reading frame (illustrated in Fig. 5B, referred to as +1).” The “adenosine” should properly be identified as a “thymidine” in the text. The PorX/PorY system is a virulence factor of Porphyromonas gingivalis and mediates the activation of the type IX secretion systemJournal of Biological ChemistryVol. 296PreviewPorX/PorY is a two-component system (TCS) of Porphyromonas gingivalis that governs transcription of numerous genes including those encoding a type IX secretion system (T9SS) for gingipain secretion and heme accumulation. Here, an in vitro analysis showed that the response regulator PorX specifically bound to two regions in the promoter of porT, a known PorX-regulated T9SS gene, thus demonstrating that PorX/PorY can directly regulate specific target genes. A truncated PorX protein containing the N-terminal receiver and effector domains retained a wild-type ability in both transcription regulation and heme accumulation, ruling out the role of the C-terminal ALP domain in gene regulation.
