Predominance of Atopic Asthma in Patients with Severe or Difficult-to-Treat Asthma in the TENOR-II cohort

Year: 2021
Type: article
Abstract: Atopy, the genetic propensity to produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) against common environmental allergens, is a known risk factor for asthma.1 In 2001, the TENOR I observational study (NCT00091767) was initiated to understand the natural history of disease in patients with severe or difficult-to-treat asthma.2 TENOR II was a multicenter, observational study conducted more than 10 years later using cross-sectional follow-up assessment of patients from TENOR I.2 As the “difficult-to-treat” asthma phenotype remains poorly defined, we sought to determine prevalence of atopy in TENOR II and describe demographic and clinical differences between patients with atopic and nonatopic asthma.
