Salvation in the Old Testament
Year: 2021
Type: article
Abstract: First, I consider characteristic uses of the Hebrew root yod–shin–ayin, “save”/“salvation,” in the OT. Secondly, I offer a heuristic reading of the servant of YHWH in Isa 49:1–7 and 52:13–53:12 in relation to salvation. One overall claim I make is that the question “What can these texts mean?” when they are preserved and privileged in a canonical context, is not less significant than the question “What did these texts originally mean?”
