The Opioid Crisis and the Need for Compassion in Pain Management

Abstract: An editorial is presented which addresses the author's views about an opioid abuse epidemic in America and the need for compassion in pain management as of 2017. Prescription drug monitoring programs and state laws in the U.S. are addressed, along with the therapeutic use of opioids. The potential impacts that no opioid policies could have on patients are examined, along with physician-patient relations in America and problems such as the over-prescribing of opioids.
