Coalición Democrática y las elecciones de 1979: la primera refundación de la derecha española
Year: 2021
Type: article
Abstract: Democratic Coalition, name of the candidacy led by Manuel Fraga in the 1979 elections, has seen its relevance underestimated due to the awful result obtained. However, this candidacy had a great importance. The Democratic Coalition supposed the first re-foundation of the right in the current democracy, losing the neo-Francoist character that characterized it in 1977, to adopt a democratic and constitutional center-right. Through previous studies, as well as press and archives material, and interviews with some of its protagonists, this article aims to analyze the background of this political operation, its protagonists, its history, and the reasons and consequences of its electoral failure.
